TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik of South Windsor, CT, introduced at AES 2009 the new ELA M 251T. The microphone features the new TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik CK-13 capsule. While based on the classic ELA M 251 models, the ELA M 251T adds a very modern twist.
That twist is the implementation of Alloy 2213(tm) as the diaphragm membrane material for the CK-13(tm) capsule. Alloy 2213 is an amalgam of Titanium and Aluminum, which was originally developed for the aerospace industry.

Debut of 8260A Monitors Demos New Stereo-to-5.1 Process

At this year’s AES Convention in NYC, Genelec’s DSP Multichannel Monitoring System was used to demonstrate the new Penteo Surround process, which automatically converts stereo material into 5.1 audio. The Genelec system consists of 3 x 8260A monitors (a new AES product unveiling) in an L-C-R arrangement, 2 x 8240A for the rear channels, and a 7270A subwoofer. Penteo Surround is featured in the hit film “Inglourious Basterds,” with classics such as David Bowie’s “Cat People” in newly upmastered 5.1 Surround.

Legendary solo recordings by Memphis-born singer/songwriter and guitarist Chris Bell are now available from Rhino Records’ Handmade division. Bell formed the power pop band Big Star in 1971 with Alex Chilton (of Boxtops fame), Andy Hummel, and Jody Stephens (now manager of Ardent studios, where the recordings took place). more
